We’re on a Mission
The mission of the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival is to bring the best independent documentary films in the world, and their filmmakers, to Sonoma County audiences. Our selections honor and promote excellence in craft, character and storytelling, but also give our audience opportunities to engage with distinct and diverse perspectives.
SDFF’s inaugural event came in 2007. Since then, the festival has welcomed filmmakers and fans from far and wide.
We’ve been honored to show features, docs, and shorts by filmmakers from around the world.
Winners of SDFF’s Jury Award and Audience Award have gone on to win major industry awards and accolades.
Filmmakers, industry insiders, and fans gather to discuss the art and craft of the business.
We’ve been honored to showcase and welcome filmmakers from around the world.
We are an all-volunteer organization of filmmakers, film scholars and critics, and film lovers.

Our partners and sponsors help bring our award-winning festival to life while garnering local visibility by passionate audiences. Plus, given our virtual presence over the past two years, businesses are being seen globally.

SDFF relies on the kindness of volunteers. We’re happy to welcome new people to help us during our annual celebration of independent films and filmmakers. We reward volunteers with free screenings, swag, and introductions to our wonderful community.
